This is my favorite Run from the Top of Germany - Zugspitze. But it´s very hard to find the right conditions. You need very low winds, perfectly coming from west/northwest. Because of the walls and peaks around the starting zone, winds higher than 10 to 15 km/h are NOT recommended for starting due to turbulences.
Start: Coming up with the german cablecar to the summit. Go to the terasse on the 2 floor and the cross over to the austrian cablecar station. Arriving the buildings in the westside of the terasse go leftside the stairs down and in front of you is the starting area. (Into direction Northwest, not to the skiing area in south direction)
Landing: near the cogwheeltrain station "Riffelriss". (also beginning of the official skiride "Riffelriss" to the cablecar ground station)
Good to know:
-sometimes the startzone is not covered with snow due to wind. Especially in the early winter saison there are too many rocks in the starting area which makes a ski-launch impossible.
-For a second run, drive down the ski slope "Riffelriss" to the cablecar-groundstation or just step into the cogwheel train at the "Riffelriss"-train station.
-landing in the big snowfield about half the run is not recommended. The area is very flat and you will often fin winds from behind there.
-Check the landing area when you are in the cable car on the way up to the summit
-Stay medium close to the ground because you will cross under the austrian cable-car during the run.
-There are two windstations at the top: German and Austrian. Don´t trust only one of them, because they are often have totally different windspeeds. Always check both stations.
